Juliane Thöne was born in Bocholt, Germany to a family of musicians. The eldest of 4 siblings, Juliane started playing the piano at the age of 5. She then switched to the recorder when she was 9 years old. Soon after she started to perform and her most memorable experience was with Frans Brüggen; that experience made her fall in love more in the instrument and helped her to gain more interest in music.

As soon as she finished her studies at the Bocholt City Music School, she was then enrolled in a youth program at the Musikhochschule Detmold (Detmold University of Music).  The youth program also encourages student to take up other orchestra instrument. At the age of 14, Juliane started her viola lessons and begin a new journey.

After she finished her high school she started her music study at the Musikhochschule Dortmund. During her studies, Juliane was offered a post as music teacher both at the Mendener Music School and the Dortmund Musikhochschule (Dortmund University of Music).

In order to create their own pedagogy concept, Juliane Thöne co-founded ‘Klingendes Haus’ together with her husband, Michael Peters-Thöne, and Wilhelm Schimmel in Warstein. Together, they also formed the ‘Contemporary Ensemble’ that performs avant-garde music.

During this time, she formed 'Springflute', a recorder quartet. Their repertoire includes works of Renaissance, Baroque and Contemporary music. In 2004, Springflute was invited to perform at Istana Budaya Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Juliane also was instrumental in the creation of the Children Theatre ‘Ronja Räubertochter’ that includes artistic and pedagogical aspects at the Dortmund Theatre. In 2006, she was part of JEKI-PROGRAM, a new pedagogy development program that ensures ‘every child can learn an instrument’ in Ruhr Region, Germany.  This program involves selected music teachers, selected pedagogues and professors that developed new ideas and methodologies.

Through her teaching period, Juliane has also developed new music project for elementary school children. 5 ensembles from this program have for the first time successfully participated in the National Youth Music Competition in the ‘New music category’.
